Highway 61

Great record shop that was based in Fletchers Walk, Paradise Circus and was the major shop for all things Americana (before it was really called that) and Power Pop.

Owner Martin was in revered Brum band The Great Outdoors and has sent a couple of photos of the shop in to the archive, including the day legendary punk poet John Cooper Clarke dropped by.

  1. Hi Martin,
I am trying to track down Jez McMannus for some photos he may have of his FINIS CODE days 82-83. .
Jez played drums with you guys I recall him saying when he was working at Virgin Records in B’ham.
Alot have time have elapsed and house moves for us all no doubt.
Hope your still active musically and I enjoyed your T.G.O.D track on You Tube.
Jez’s drumming with Finis Code is on ‘myspace simonfordandfroth’ on the track ‘Sucker For Your Love’
    Regards
Simon Ford formerly of (Finis Code and Fragments)

  2. Used to work nearby and spent a lot of time in Highway 61. Used to go in lunchtimes and just browse while listening to what was on the the store turntable. Spent my hard earned in there too and they were a friendly, helpful outfit. It was while in Highway 61 that I heard some Studio One Reggae stuff being played and I bought my first reggae CD of many.
