  1. Was this place known as The Whip Club in the 80s Can anybody verify?
If so, went to a NWOBHM night there in the 80s and saw Samson, Angelwitch and Preying Mantis. Pretty good, thought Samson were the best on the night.

  2. I remember the Moseley and Balsall Heath Institute in the 1940′ and 50’s. It had a fantastic dance floor which was popular for New Year Eve and special dances where the men wore evening dress with black tails. Big Ben chimes came from London on New Year’s Eve after a carol service and we all sang ‘Olde Lang Syne. There were huge childrens’ parties and 2 Amateur societies produced a play there every year which were of a very high standard. There was lots of space behind and under the stage for storing scenery and changing rooms. Lecturers came from all over the country to give talks and it was an excellent meeting place for Drama enthusiasts. This was before television.
However, the seats were very uncomfortable. I have wonderful memories of this place.
