I seem to recall that the Yew Tree was a venue for a friday and sunday night dj night called Sabbath Rock. I attended up to about 1984 ish and I cant find out much about it now
It isnt listed on your site and Idont remember the DJ name- maybe someone knows.
Blimey, blast from my past. Used to do the Rio, the Costers, Mr Bills and the grapes. Following Tony Craig everywhere. What memories. Born and bred in Yardley. Used to have to get Tony a pint and a fat Cigar to play Urgent for us. Happy days.x
Hey! I started Sabbath Rock at The Yew Tree pub in approx. 1975,(times fly and memory doesn’t). I had been doing the Sunday night “general” disco there for a couple of years, but the Landlord was going to chuck us out because of the fights which were carried on from The Swan at Yardley and a couple of other venues. So, I with a couple of the Double Zero Club friends suggested we run Heavy Rock nights instead. Within 2 weeks it was a sell-out every Sunday night. I retired in 1980, because I moved house and handed over to an old friend to run it.
