35 years old and in my mind it still fits just as it did back in the day.
Been saving it for a reunion gig but alas….

Pedantic as I am, it wasn’t Denizens with a capital D, it was denizens, deliberately lower case d, as all the t shirts, photos, labels and publicity handbills show. The obverse of the cover was a montage, or early pre-photoshop, of various items, I did all the photos, the design was a composite from everyone and I think the settee was in a furniture shop by New Street Station where we just walked in and did the shoot, the TV was mine, can’t remember where the wardrobe or the lampshade came from. We were later joined by Teoman Irmak on keyboards and after Joe left he was replaced by Rob Bright. The second release was an EP In The Crowd containing four tracks, I’m Not Rich, The Frontier, Power (CEGB) and The Waitng Room. The T must be more than 35 years old as we ceased to exist as a unit some time in 1980 or 81. Points of interest: we almost signed to Cherry Red but there were a few points of disagreement, however the late Alex Sadkin courted us for Island Records and unbelievably they went with U2 instead. I later worked with U2 as their monitor engineer. Those were the days.

Always wondered what happened to Joe Lampton (Steve or did I imagine that was his real name lol?) – he was my favourite drummer back then and being a fellow drummer always admired his playing being more refined than a lot of the kick bash stuff going on

‘denizens’ excellent band and their sound still takes me back to late 70s Birmingham. We dragged them over to Lichfield Guildhall, where my band V-Sor,X supported them. They were great on stage, sadly off stage they were quite condescending, which was a shame. That aside they were a band that should have had a much bigger name in the British music scene, sign me up for the reunion gig 🙂
I heard Ammonia Subway being played on John Peel one night and went out and bought the single which I still own. Love that song. I also bought the follow up on the strength of the first single.
