Notes from 2011:
Mike Hoskins wrote in about Graham Warr Records in the Oasis Market. Warrs was opened throughout the 70s and was arguably the Mod, Soul and Northern Soul record shop.

Graham was also a highly influential DJ, again on the Soul and Northern Soul most notably at Chaplins. He then went on to DJ at the Rum Runner.

We would love more information, memories and memorabilia about Graham, his record store and Chaplins, send them in!

  1. Even more memorable was the most attractive young lady who worked at Graham Warr Records. Bought my full length leather coat from Oasis – the business!

  2. I used to work for Graham on his record stall outside the Oasis on saturdays, before heading off to Wigan Casino with a box full of vinyl from his stall to sell.
I don’t know what has become of Graham, but I would like to get in touch again.

  3. I used to trawl through the Tamla imports at this stall. As I remember it was just inside the front door of Oasis from Corporation St. The US tamla singles were on yellow/brown
or blue labels. I hadnt a clue what I was buying so used pick out a few. Theyd be about 60p each back then (1974). Then a trip home on the 176 bus and a quick blast out on my home made disco kit

  4. i knew graham & his shop in oasis towards the end of the 70’s – i bought us 7’s & lp’s from him. he was also 1 of my favoutite dj’s at the brum locarno all-dayers – bali hai room, alongside neil rushton & shaun williams. all top connoisseurs of the good groove!
when the locarno changed to the powerhouse, i was lucky enough to be a regular dj in the bali hai jazz room with chris reid, baz fe jazz & eric x

  5. Hi I knew Graham and his wife Julie they moved to Hereford and opened a couple of clothes shops called Jingo one in Hereford the other in Worcester and were very successful. I’m not sure if they’re still owning these stores. I also bought all my music from Graham Warr Records as well and was my monthly journey from Coleshill/Marston Green each month to spend a large portion of my meagre wages on the latest Disco/ Soul albums and 12inch singles, they were great times and thoroughly enjoyed their company and time spent together there and when they moved to Hereford

  6. Used to go to Graham’s nights at the Rum Runner and Chaplin’s. The Rum Runner night was Jazz Funk mainly. I also to the all sayers he did at the Lacarno

  7. Knew Graham and Julie very well through Chaplins at the top of Broad Street and later at the Rum Runner.
Graham was very innovative dj and was never afraid to push imports Jazz funk and true underground Disco at the time.
I remember the clientele, fashion and dancing and what an elitist crowd they were.
Normal run of the mill visitors were in disbelief at the ballet style moves in leg warmers.
I often left early to get the last train 0120hrs back to Wolverhampton
I still have a lot of the albums 12″ mixes which are now very rare.
    We always set the trend
I then followed Graham and Julie diversifying into hi nrg and the guy scene
