As many of the shows you attended were promoted by MCP, thank you very much. It brought back some great memories, especially fighting for great supports!
I wasn’t a major gig attender but I did go to one or two of these gigs , most notably japan at the Odean and Loyd Cole at the Powerhouse. Both fantastic acts but the Japan audience were all a bit ‘too cool for school’ and hardly a foot was seen to tap as they were mesmerised by David Sylvian et al.
My first gig was a year or two before this when I went to see UB40 at the Humming Bird Just after they had broken and absolutely loved them.

I am currently working with Bertz Associates on a project in which we are collecting memories of the Birmingham Tower Ballroom in order to preserve and promote the history of the site. Went to see new order and happy Mondays at the tower ballroom, it was a great night. The journey from Coventry via several pubs in Birmingham was an adventure in its self as I took my 3 friends to the wrong Reservoir rd. They wanted to go home but I persuaded them to continue. We got there via bus taxi,. Inside I remember a palm tree and the club was long and borrow. I honestly didn’t know where we were. I was only 18 and during night had spent all our money. We were looking at walking home and so after the gig I decided to ask for lifts to cov and the first person was at cov poly. They likely gave us a lift back. What a night 04/10/86. Had to get the bootleg tape as Bernard had a go at a heckler. He even altered the words of the song to slag the person off. Amazing could go on. Never went there again. Hummingbird was easier to get to from Coventry.
