Music Beat

Music Beat was run by DJ Roy Stanier and was initially based on the Bristol Road before moving to new premises in Hurst Street.

  1. Roy was my uncle, sadly no longer with us. I remember his record shop, it was primarily geared towards dance and club music because that’s the music he played as a DJ. One of his mixes can be found at Mixcloud, a mix tape he made in around 1986 when he was playing pop and underground HI-NRG of the time.

    I always remember getting the EMI promo sampler CDs from him. He would get them in advance of releases and so I’d have certain new releases all on one CD, which was quite something in the age prior to the internet!

    1. I worked with Roy in Birmingham in his shop. Did hear rumours that he was no longer with us and sad to hear they were true. I still have a few of his mixes on cassette and think he started to do CD’s as well before he closed the shop in Hurst Street as have a couple of them too.
