Old Crown

Birmingham’s oldest pub, sited in Digbeth. The Old Crown had live music, mainly jazz upstairs.

  1. As a student at Aston 1969-73, I had some enjoyable trad jazz evenings (Sundays I think) in the upstairs room at this old pub. Resident musicians were the Eagle Jazz Band.

  2. Hi
I used to go to the old crown in the sixties and seventies great nights plenty
of fun and good jazz .I have made several recordings at the old crown and also
at the jazz festival Summerfield park 1970.

  3. I was the drummer in the Tony Milliner/Alan Littlejohn Sextet from 1964 ’til the bands demise in 1970.I remember with great pleasure our date in May 1969 when Ben Webster joined us for a concert in Summerfield Park. Needless to say, we were delighted to have the great man as a guest but I am a little disappointed that there is almost nothing written about the event. A highlight in my career. Sad to say Dave Holland (bass) and I are the only members still alive. Dave went on to work with Miles Davis, remained in the States and is now recognized as a world player. .If anyone has anything written to mark that concert, I would be very grateful to receive a copy.
    Regards Mal Cutlan.
