I went there 2 or 3 times. The only band I can remember seeing was the American group the Electric Prunes who had big hits with “I had too much to dream last night” and “Get me to the world on time”. Don’t remember much about it except it had a balcony inside so you could see the bands from up high. It was more of a ‘night club’ than a rock venue but they did have some interesting acts there.
I worked as a chef at The Castaways from July to December 1967. The format on Mondays to Saturdays was as a theatre restaurant with many big name stars performing for the week including Dusty Springfield, Brenda Lee, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and many others. On Sundays the format became more of a night club with groups on including The Electric Prunes – Only meals in a basket served! All the waitresses dressed as Island Girls – short skirts and bikini tops.
I worked as a DJ at the castaways between 1971-1974 under the name of Bobby Bee playing soul mowtown and the charts super memories
The Hykells did a couple of gigs at The Castaways when they first started out. I remember we played a lot of Gene Vincent numbers.

My father owned the castaway club and then changed its name to The Time and place when it was then turned into a strip club then sold in 1982.
