The Irish Centre

  1. Hi, wondered if anyone could help: am looking for the name of an American blues / folksy artist I saw at the Irish centre Digbeth.

Black Afro American Deep South type of thing – actually forgotten when but must have been mid, late eighties (possibly early nineties). Oldish guy even then in the autumn of his career I’d say.

As I recall, he was solo, so name was something (but wasn’t) like: Eddie Hawkins ???

    Appreciated.

  2. Memories of the Irish Centre are being right at the front at a Wedding Present gig, and sharing Dave Gedge’s orange juice that he handed to the sweaty crowd. And, not having tickets to a gig given by The Sundays, I decided to chance my luck and turned up during the band’s soundcheck in the afternoon. I slipped into the venue and stood at the back of the room and was given an exclusive performance that was even better than going to the concert itself. I remember Harriet shuffling around in her socks. Wonderful!
